    What Are the Two Types of Google Ranking Algorithm Updates?

     Broadly speaking, Google has two varieties of updates for its SEO guidelines. These are – Officially Named Updates and Core Updates. The first category of latest SEO updates have to do with fixing specific SEO guideline redundancies. These updates are usually named after the letter P. For example, the Panda update was meant to downrank websites with low-quality content. So, a Panda recovery would involve scaling the quality of your on-site content.

    Similarly, the Penguin update removed the benefit from offsite spam links and penalized websites which used them. So, a Penguin recovery involved deleting spam links and getting a more authentic and relevant interlinking between your website and any other off-site pages you link to. The recently released update was not a P named update. So, you don’t need to worry about that at the moment.

    The March 12th, 2019 update was a Core Update and such types are rather common. As such, they are general SEO guideline updates and their specifics are never mentioned. Obviously, it pays to be in the know about Core Updates because your site can get downranked pretty quickly if you do not. Aside from Core Updates, there are also minor updates which don’t really matter that much but are still noted by SEO professionals.
